Academic Early Warning System

At Newark High School, we’re committed to helping every student succeed—and that includes identifying academic challenges before they become report card concerns. Our Academic Early Warning System is designed to give timely alerts to students and families when a student is failing or at risk of failing one or more classes.

How It Works

• Regular Progress Checks: Teachers and administrators review student performance throughout the school year, with early warning reports aligned to the academic calendar every 2-3 weeks.
• Digital Alerts: If a student is failing (average below 65%) or at risk (average around 70%), an email is sent to families noting the specific courses and current grades before the end of the marking period.
• Ongoing Access: Families are strongly encouraged to monitor progress using Schoology and SchoolTool accounts.
   

Key Report Dates (2025–2026)

Reports are issued approximately every 2 1/2 weeks for eligibility and progress monitoring. Students have until the end of each marking period to improve their grades before official report cards are finalized and sent home electronically.

Course Status Definitions

• Failing: Below 65%
• At-Risk: 65–70%
• Good Standing: 71% and above
