The Newark Music Boosters is back at full participation this school year and eagerly welcoming new members from all grade levels.

When musical activities were either shut down or very limited during the last two years because of COVID-19 restrictions, the Newark Boosters fundraisers and its other supportive activities essentially came to an abrupt halt.

But now that the activities tempo is back up to speed, the NCSD Music Department is hoping Pre-K through 12th grade parents and guardians will become Boosters and become helpers to the music program.

Music Department Leader Cynthia Briggs, who teaches instrumental music full time at Kelley School, is band director and this year teaches one period each morning at Newark Middle School, said the Newark Music Boosters are an essential component to the department’s overall success.

She and Robert Humphrey, who teaches instrumental music and directs the bands at Newark High School and whose wife, Sarah, was just elected president of the Newark Music Boosters, and Kate Flock, NHS vocal music teacher and director of choirs say the organization provides needed funds and help for extra things.

They include funding for field trips, extra musical equipment, apparel and more.

“The Boosters also need folks willing to bake items as well as provide ‘helping hands’ for upcoming events such as the Veterans Concert reception November 10th at Newark High School and pre-concert concessions for audience members at the December 2nd RPO concert,” Humphrey said.

While the Booster Club’s outreach extends right down to music programs at the primary school level, this year it will also be assisting the NHS Drama Club in various ways

“We would love to have parents/guardians of students in grades Pre-K though 12th grade  involved in Boosters, as the organization assists all-age levels of musicians,” Humphrey continued.

Persons who would like to become Boosters should contact Humphrey at Robert.Humphrey@Newarkcsd.org, Flock at kate.flock@newarkcsd.org or Briggs at Cynthia.Briggs@Newarkcsd.org as soon as possible.
