In a flyer to parents before the June 10th event, Lincoln and Perkins School Visual Arts teacher Courtney Dentel, who is also the Pre-K through 12th grade Visual and Media Arts Department Leader said she and her students were excited to share their creativity, imagination and hard work.
“Throughout the year, our students have explored a variety of materials, techniques, and artistic inspirations _ from storytelling and self-expressions to famous artists and character design,’’ she said. “Each project on display represents not only artistic growth, but also the development of important habits of mind-like observation, developing craft/skill, expressions, and understanding the art world. We hope you enjoy seeing the world through the eyes of our young artists and celebrating their unique voices.
“And to my amazing 2nd grade students, thank you for sharing in your artistic journey with me since UPK and Kindergarten. Watching you grow as artists has been a true joy.”
Dentel also thanked this year’s student teachers Ally Newton, Jo Gromoske and Cydney Gromoske, “for inspiring our students and growing into future art educators.” She also appreciatively thanked Newark Middle School Art teacher Kristen Pullen, Newark High School art teacher Samantha Montgomery and her daughter Sami Dentel, a Pal-Mac Middle School art teacher “for their many hours creating displays and helping bring this show to life.”
“It was truly wonderful to see how proud and excited our second graders were to share their creativity, talent, and growth with their peers and loved ones,” Perkins Principal Pete Czerkas said. “Mrs. Dentel is an exceptional art teacher who fosters trust, builds confidence, and inspires creativity in every student. This was clearly reflected in the impressive work and artistic expression displayed by our second graders.”
Czerkas shared a few remarks from parents.
• “I’m thoroughly impressed; this was amazing!”
•“You can really see each child’s personality shining through in their artwork.”
• “These kids are incredibly creative.”
