“On a beautiful spring day, past and present administrators, teachers, and students gathered in front of the original main entrance to commemorate the occasion,” Principal Peter Czerkas said. “Highlights of the ceremony included a slideshow showcasing both past and present moments, second grade students leading the school community in singing “Happy Birthday,” and a closing rendition of the Perkins School song. Following the ceremony, students returned to their classrooms to enjoy cupcakes provided by the Food Service Department. Special guests were then welcomed to the library for a reception, where they viewed the Historical Society presentation and revisited cherished memories of Perkins School.
“Through the collective dedication of our staff, students, and community, Perkins School’s 100th anniversary celebration honored our past while inspiring our future,” Czerkas continued. “It was a true reflection of what it means to be part of the Newark community.”
The principal explained that last August, Cindy Russell, a retired Newark administrator, visited Perkins School to conduct research in preparation for a Historical Society presentation this spring, marking 100 years of the Charles H. Perkins School. Staff was formally informed of this milestone year. Through the dedication of the Tier 1 Committee, led by UPK teachers Kelly Faust and Cory Schalberg, the vision of a 100th birthday celebration came to fruition.
Czerkas also appreciatively noted Newark Central School District’s Food Service Supervisor Christina Marriott and Perkins Food Service staff for assisting with the reception and donating cupcakes; NCSD Director of Facilities J.W. Bement for having the grounds crew get the outside of the building looking beautiful”; Perkins Head Custodian Justin Foster for setting up and clean-up after the event; NCSD A/V and Communications Coordinator Kyle Bliek for creating the slide show and District Administrators that attended the event.
