Pre-K through second grade girls and boys, many dressed up in fancy, semi-formal attire and their moms, dads, siblings and other extended family members came out to the school for the fun-filled, annual event sponsored by the Lincoln School PTA.
A highlight of the Valentineβs Ball again centered around the decorated gymnasium where tables were set up for craft making and upbeat music for dancing with music provided by DJ James Schuler of Charismatic Entertainment.
Digital photos of children and their families were taken at the very popular Photo Booth station that families and others each year wait in line for to be photographed.
Students and their families also enjoyed making Valentine-related crafts in a classroom and in the UPK and Kindergarten hallway. There were 6 different crafts in the UPK/K Hallway including: heart magnets, love bug caterpillars, bookmarks, bracelets and photo frames
Pizza, cookies, apple juice and water were served at the βSweetheart Dinnerβ in the cafeteria.
Tara Eberhardt, who is co-president of the Lincoln School PTA with Shawnna Wirth, said there was no cost to anyone attending the event that is sponsored each year by the PTA.
She noted Spinco in Newark provided a donation to purchase craft items.
At the beginning of the evening, children were given a welcoming goodie bag that included a wooden bookmark to color at home, a glow ring and a heart bag to keep their crafts in.
In honor of retired UPK teacher Stephanie Joyce, who came up with the Valentineβs Ball idea several years ago and who was devoted to giving back to the community, this year attendees could opt to send messages on a large poster to a member of the Lincoln School community, Bob Mosteiro, the schoolβs head custodian who is recovering from a recent surgery.
Lincoln School Principal Kari Hamelinck thanked everyone who helped make the event extra special.
Staff volunteers included: Elaine Erb, Amanda Richwalder, Rebecca Herko, Jasmine Bueso, Melissa Allison, Eileen Hill, Brandy Forjone, Laurie Kingsbury, Stephanie Martin, Sarah Todd, Abby Cantello, Kari Hamelinck, and Peny Spry. Family volunteers were the Weigand, Wirth, and Eberhardt families
Student volunteers: Ava Erb, Emma Warrington, Kloie Sergeant, Kaya Woods, Elizabeth Hamelinck, Aiden Jarzynka-le, Mai Weigand, Ethan Holley, Zoey Richwalder, Aubrey Adams and Kendal Velte.
βThis event is in its 14th year. It is a wonderful evening for families to come and enjoy time together. The Lincoln PTA hopes to carry it on for many more years to come,β said Hamelinck
