Julia Solan, Director of Family and Community Engagement for the Newark Central School District, who is overseeing the Newark Work Mentorship Initiative, said participating students will gain valuable insight into real-world jobs while mentors will be able to potentially help shape Newarkβs future workforce.
βWe are seeking businesses, agencies, companies and individual professionals willing to mentor students whose career goals match their area of work and expertise,ββ she said. βThis program will give students valuable opportunities to explore potential career paths and discover what they may want to pursue after high school.β
Solan said the program also potentially enhances a company or businessesβ ability to attract and hire individuals theyβve mentored.
Persons interested in mentoring an NHS student at their business should contact Solan at 315-332-3238. They will be asked to fill out a simple application.
After mentors are approved, they will attend a brief training session and begin working with a student.
