βThe Scholastic Art and Writing Awards competition is the nationβs longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens,β Rathbun said. βYoung artists and writers are celebrated both regionally and nationally through online publications, juried shows, award ceremonies, and scholarships. Every year around 5000 students from the Central NY region comprised of 14 counties and almost 400 eligible schools participate and about 1500 students are selected for Gold Key, Silver Key and Honorable mention awards.β
The NHS award winners are: Silver Key winners: Johanna Gao, Tessa Miller and Mai Wiegand, all sophomores and Honorable Mention winners: sophomore Mikayla Kleiboer and Senior Emma Titus.
Last year, the Central New York region presented almost 1,400 awards locally and earned twenty-four awards at the national level, including a Portfolio Gold Medal. Only twelve of those are awarded across the entire nation.
The show will be open to the public from January 14th until February 27th at the Whitney Applied Technology Center at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse.
