“This grant will help sustain and grow our small pantry that supports so many! We look forward to the support this funding will provide to our Newark Reds families,” said Kim Howell, NHS Community Schools Coordinator, who oversees the food pantry located in the Community Schools office and handles all requests for food.

“As we enter our second year with our district's food pantry, we continue to see a real and ongoing need among our students and families,” said Julia Solan, Director of Family and Community Engagement for the Newark Central School District who applied for the grant. “Kim has done an outstanding job leading the pantry and building partnerships with local agencies to support food distributions throughout the year. This award will help us expand that work and ensure we can continue providing meaningful support to families during times of need.”

Newark Central School District families who find themselves in need of one day’s worth of food may receive it from the Newark Reds Food Pantry.

Parents of NCSD students will receive food after calling the Emergency Food Pantry at 315-332-3200 ext. 2148 and making a request or using the QR code, on the flyer, left, or available on ParentSquare to allow parents to fill out a food request form online.

“This food pantry is an amazing support for our students and families across the district and would not be possible without our community partners: Foodlink, Reliant Credit Union in Newark, Blessings in a Backpack and Wayne County Community Schools.

Solan noted Reliant not only is a sponsor of the Newark Reds Food Pantry again this year, but will be helping to provide meals during school breaks during the second half of the 2025-26 school year

“We are also very grateful to Blessings in a Backpack through which Tanya Hasseler partners with us to provide pre-bagged snack packs for students on long weekends and breaks,” Solan said.
