“Anne of Green Gables is an adaptation of the beloved series by L.M. Montgomery. It follows the adventures of 11-year-old Anne Shirley, an imaginative and spirited orphan girl, as she adjusts to her life with the sister and brother team of Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert at Green Gables in Avonlea, Prince Edward Island, Canada. The play captures some of the memorable moments from the novel such as Anne’s friendship with her neighbor Diana Barry, her rivalry with schoolmate Gilbert Blythe, and her interactions with Avonlea locals such as her busybody neighbor, Rachel Lynde and students at school. The play explores the themes of identity, growing up, friendship, and discovering family,” Director Emily Howard, an English 11 teacher at NHS, explained.

“Anne of Green Gables” is a personal favorite of mine,” Howard continued. “I am excited to bring this sentimental piece of literature to life on the NHS stage. The play features an eclectic mix of characters that will give our actors great opportunities for growth and development.”
