Newark Central school district new staff orientation

With the beginning of the 2025-206 school year fast approaching, new Newark Central School District faculty and staff participated in an inspiring and dynamic New Teacher Orientation August 21st, 22nd, 25th and 26th at the W-FL BOCES Conference Center.

The training was provided by a team of coaches—Laura Schunk, Amanda Quku, Lisa Eakins, Alisa Elder, Aaron Sweet, as well as Will Bean, Coordinator of Professional Development and Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Donna Rizzo.

District and building administrators greeted and welcomed staff on the first day.

“The orientation was designed to equip new educators with the tools and confidence they need to succeed,” Eakins said.

“Participants engaged in team bonding through community circles, explored the qualities of successful lesson plans and discovered essential technology resources,” she continued. “They delved into content and curriculum, learned about Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) programs, and Midwest PBIS 6 classroom practices.

John Ginter, Director of Multi-“Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) provided new teachers with an overview of Newark’s MTSS systems and practices.

“This comprehensive orientation provided a robust foundation for new teachers, setting the stage for a successful start to their teaching careers in Newark.” Eakins said.

“Our New Teacher Orientation was a huge success! We are honored and excited to have such a wonderful group of educators join our district. A big THANK YOU to our Instructional Coaches and our Coordinator for Professional Development, as well as all the behind-the-scenes folks, for organizing this opportunity for the newest members of our Newark team,” Rizzo said.

Superintendent Susan Hasenauer, School Administrators, and Board of Education President Russ Harris and Vice President Julie Nevelizer were among those attending and welcoming new staff at an informal luncheon Aug. 22nd.

“On behalf of the Board of Education, we are excited to welcome our new teachers to Newark,” Harris said. “You play a vital role in shaping the future of our students and community, and we are grateful for the passion and fresh perspectives you bring.”

New staff was treated to a luncheon by the Newark Teachers’ Association Aug. 25th.

On the final day of New Teacher Orientation, Julia Solan, Director of Family and Community Engagement and Jose Otero, Director of Safety and Security took Orientation participants on a bus tour of the Newark community.
