Based on their engagement in the programming and feedback, Scott Wager, Co-Founder & CEO of the organization said the job interviewing preparation sessions proved to be very beneficial for the five young women who participated.

They have been attending the weekly, 45-minute Leadership Development classes this school year that blends emotional intelligence development with career mentoring.

Before the actual mock interviewing sessions were held, Wager and his Expeditions of Empowerment colleague Janean Shedd, program facilitators, worked with the 12 junior and senior program participants in several weekly sessions on how to recognize and present their individual skill sets, strengths and applicable experiences in a concise, positive manner in future job interviews.

Two Newark Central School District staff members, Christine Cravatta, Executive Director of Human Resources for the NCSD, Allison Trapasso, NHS Physical Education teacher _ along with Rhonda Underhill, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction at Lyons CSD, Morgan Young, Human Resources Generalist at Creation Technologies in Newark and Amanda DeSain, Newark Branch Manager of Reliant Federal Credit Union participated in the mock interview sessions.

During the first session, March 31st, Trapasso, appropriately attired for the occasion, confidently and effectively played the role of a person being interviewed by a potential employer played by Wager. Afterward Shedd sought feedback on how Trapasso’s interview went from the five NHS students and asked what positive things they would take away from what they observed.

The following week, each of the five students did two practice interviews with the four other professional women, who also offered helpful, constructive suggestions afterward.

Wager was pleased to report the mock interview session participants “loved the experience and one even said it was the most impactful part of her involvement in the two-year Future Women Leaders of Wayne County program.”

Another student went on a job interview two days after the second mock interview session and was delighted to report to Wager and Shedd that it went really well!

The Future Women Leaders of Wayne County program at NHS is funded by ESL Federal Credit Union in Newark.
