Trucks on parade at perksin school

Nearly 300 students from Perkins School and the Newark Education Center there got to see a fire truck, law enforcement vehicles, an ambulance, a semi-truck, a dump truck and pay loader, a farm truck, race cars and an ice cream truck at the “Touch-a-Truck” event held at Perkins School May 30th.

First grade teacher Jillian Blodgett, who organized the event afterward said: “The students loved it. They thought it was so cool to be so close to these vehicles and even get inside a few of them.”

“This event is an invaluable opportunity that should continue for our young students,” she continued. “It offers a meaningful way to connect with the community while also supporting students’ career readiness. During the event, students were able to ask questions, explore a variety of vehicles up close, and interact with equipment they might not otherwise have access to. Touch-a-Truck was specifically designed to give students hands-on experience with a wide range of vehicles, helping them understand the important roles these machines_ and the people who operate them _ play in our community.

“This year we had the awesome opportunity to have some new vehicles join us including a Wegmans semi-truck, two dirt track racecars, and a Double R farm truck that carried a piglet named Bella; and Molly V’s ice cream truck.

Other members of the Committee that helped plan the Touch event were: Marie Colacino (Building Substitute), Meaghan Trevvett (Reading Teacher), Danielle Watt (Reading Teacher), Kelly Faust (UPK Teacher), Amanda Quku (Instructional Coach), Jessica Herendeen (Math AIS Provider) and Jamie Yonker (Math AIS Provider).
