Class of 2025 Top Scholars

Newark High School has announced its Class of 2025 Valedictorian and Salutatorian.

Lucas Herd, whose current grade point average (GPA) is 99.38 and is the son of Alani and Daniel Herd is Valedictorian.


Tessa Belliveau, whose GPA is 98.57 and is the daughter of Tamara Walsh and Brian Belliveau is Salutatorian.


Herd plans to attend Cornell University in the fall where he will major in electrical and computer engineering.

Belliveau plans to attend the University of Vermont where she will major in environmental science.

“I am so proud of both Lucas and Tessa,” NHS Principal Kelly A. Zielke said. “They have worked exceptionally hard and have dedicated themselves to their academics. They have such exciting plans for the future, and I am looking forward to their success. They are wonderful representatives of Newark in and out of the classroom.”

While at NHS, Herd was named a Commended Student in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program last fall and is a National Honor Society member.

Both Herd and Belliveau have taken a variety of AP, Dual Credit and Project Lead the Way courses while at NHS.

Herd has played Varsity Soccer and Varsity Lacrosse for three years; is a member of Spanish Honor Society and a Link Crew member during his junior and senior years.

Belliveau has been a Varsity Cross Country and Varsity Outdoor Track and Field team member during her junior and senior years. She is a member of French Honor Society and is president of the Environmental Club which she has been a member of for two years.

Outside of NHS, Belliveau works part-time at Pontillo’s Pizza in Newark and Burnap’s Farm Market in Sodus.
