Gregory kern appointed NCSD interim assistant superintendent for business

Gregory Kern, who has been serving as Interim School Administrator in the South Orangetown Central School District in Blauvelt, N.Y. since 2022, was appointed Interim Assistant Superintendent for Business by the Newark Board of Education August 7th.

He is filling the vacancy created by the July 31st retirement of Assistant Superintendent for Business Ed Gnau on an as needed basis until June 30, 2025. Kern’s appointment was effective Aug. 8th.

This is not Kern’s first time working in this capacity in Newark. He served as Assistant Superintendent for Business here during the 2007-2008 school year. He replaced Robert N. Fogel Jr. who left the district to become the business manager at the Monroe I BOCES in Fairport.

Kern has a vast amount of experience in school business administration having worked at a number of school districts during the last 21 years including being:

• The Assistant Superintendent for Business in New Rochelle City School District

• The Assistant Superintendent for Finance in Newburgh, N.Y.

• The Assistant Superintendent for Administration for the Enlarged City School District in Middletown, N.Y.

• The Assistant Superintendent for Business in the Washingtonville Central School District in Washingtonville, N.Y.

• The School Business Administrator for the Greater Southern Tier BOCES in Elmira, N.Y.

• The School Business Administrator for the Amherst Central School District • The Assistant Superintendent for Business in the Newark Central School District

• The Director of Financial Services for the Medina Central School District

“I’m glad to be back in Newark,” Kern said. “I enjoy what I do and look forward to working in the Newark Central School District again.”

His experience in various districts will allow him to put a fresh eye on our practices and will continue to keep our financial status going in the right direction. His years of knowledge will be invaluable,” Superintendent Susan Hasenauer said.

Kern earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and accounting at Niagara University and his Master’s Degree in Education and School Business at SUNY Brockport.

He resides in Canandaigua with wife, Delia.
