With the September 6th opening of the school right around the corner, new Newark Central School District faculty and staff participated in an engaging and informative orientation August 21-24th in the Newark Middle School Library

The training, thoughtfully curated by instructional coaches Aaron Sweet, Alisa Elder, Amanda Quku, Lisa Eakins, Stephanie Martin, William Bean and Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Krista Lewis, covered an array of topics that contribute to effective teaching practices.
“From delving into the nuances of Midwest Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) classroom strategies to exploring the power of restorative practices and community circles, staff gained valuable insights into creating nurturing spaces where every student can thrive,” Elder explained.
Sessions centered around designing purposeful lessons and integrating technology seamlessly into teaching methodologies to enable educators to craft engaging and relevant learning experiences.
Sandra Ordan, Director of Innovation and Grants Services, presented on the importance of teachers’ self awareness to not only understand their own emotions but also to guide students in emotional growth.

Through sessions focused on Newark PRIDE values and principles, new staff was inspired to foster a sense of belonging and respect, ensuring that diversity is celebrated and cherished.
“As these new educators embark on their teaching journeys, they carry with them the collective wisdom gained from this training, fostering a brighter future for themselves and their students alike,” Elder said.
“We have hired a wonderful group of new teachers this year,” Lewis said. “They come to us with a variety of experience and with many fresh ideas. As they have worked together, it has been inspiring to watch them connect and to see their excitement grow as they learn about instructional practices, lesson planning expectations, and the PBIS six classroom practices that Newark implements. We are looking forward to having them begin in their classrooms with students!”
Superintendent Susan Hasenauer, other members of the District’s administrative team including Assistant Superintendent for Business Ed Gnau and Executive Director of Human Resources Christine Bennett and Board of Education President Julie Nevelizer, Vice President Mary Thoms and BOE members Russ Harris, Miranda Brooks-Ruggeri, and Steven DeRenzo were among those attending and welcoming new staff at an informal luncheon Aug. 22nd.
Similarly, on Aug. 23rd, new staff were treated to a luncheon by the Newark Teachers’ Association.
