A Career Fair for grades 6-12 students and their families will be held November 28th from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Newark High School gymnasium.

High School and Middle School students, parents and guardians are encouraged to attend to learn more about careers as well as college opportunities in the area.

Julia Solan, NCSD Family Outreach & Community Schools Coordinator said she and Jessica Orchard, Newark Middle School counselor, got permission from Krista Lewis, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction to plan this “first ever” Career Fair for grades 8-12 after taking eighth graders to a career carnival at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Palmyra last month.

Solan said part of the District’s Strategic Plan is to provide more educational opportunities for parents and students and this event falls into that category.

It also provides an opportunity _ also emphasized in the District’s Strategic Plan _ to get more local businesses and agencies involved in the school district.

As of November 14th, 32 businesses and agencies from Newark, Palmyra and Geneva are planning to participate.

Solan said “local and area colleges like FLCC and Hobart William Smith and more will be there.”

“With over 30 local businesses and organizations present, students and families can engage with local employers to learn more about different career pathways and more,” Solan said. “We are looking forward to this event and are happy to have as many local businesses/organizations and colleges to participate as possible.

“There will also be an opportunity for students and families to enter in a raffle for a chance to win an iPad or AirPods. We will be raffling off two of each!”
