The Newark Board of Education July 13th approved the hiring of Jonathan Mastin,
Director Health, Physical Education and Athletics and Dean of Students for the
Bloomfield Middle/High School to become the new Director of Physical
Education, Health and Athletics for the Newark Central School District.

Effective August 1st, he will be filling the vacancy created by Chris Corey who
became the Director of Physical Education and Health for the Rochester City School
District July 5th.

“As the new Director of Physical Education, Health and Athletics, Jon will need to
address many of the suggestions highlighted in both the PE and the Athletic audits done during
this last school year in our district. After a very rigorous vetting process, I believe we have the
right person at the helm to continue moving our Athletic Program forward. His vast experience
makes him the ideal candidate to come in and hit the ground running,” said Superintendent
Susan Hasenauer.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Newark Central School District team and am extremely
grateful to Superintendent Hasenauer and the Board of Education for appointing me to the
position of Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics,” Mastin said. “I am very
much looking forward to working with such a collaborative, passionate and proud group of
students, families, teachers and coaches. I cannot wait to get started. Go Reds!”

Mastin began working as a Physical Education and Health teacher at Bloomfield
Middle/High School in 2003. In 2015, he became Director of Health, PE and Athletics for the Bloomfield Central School District and in 2017, he took on the additional duties as Dean of Students at the Middle/High School.
