Highlights of the day included an early morning assembly in the gym at which students and staff sang the 100th Day song, 100 colorful helium balloons being released into the air and Mark Plyter, executive director of the Humane Society of Wayne County was presented with 112 items that students and staff donated to help defray the costs of providing good care of animals at the shelter.
Donations included various cleaning supplies, dog and cat treats, dog and cat food, dog outfits, paper towels, and lots more.
Plyter graciously accepted the contributions, noting Perkins School’s efforts each year to support the HSWC are so appreciated.
The drive to benefit the Humane Society was organized by second grade teacher Jessica Bittner and the school’s Commitment 3 committee that focuses on Family & Community engagement.
100th day school projects_ made either at home or in school were also on display in the hallways and on students like 100th day tee shirts, sweatshirts or hats.
Besides just being fun, Czerkas said the 100th day celebration and the days leading up to it at the school reinforced learning among students.
"Our 100th Day Celebration highlights meaningful early learning in a way that’s both simple and engaging. Students at all grades UPK-2 could choose to participate in creating projects using 100 items, and teachers designed activities that help build number sense, grouping, and early counting skills. Reaching 100 is an important benchmark for young learners, and these hands-on tasks give students a concrete way to practice and understand it. It’s a great combination of creativity and foundational math work."
