Kindergarten through second graders at Perkins School, in collaboration with staff and parents, together collected 252 non-perishable food items and 56 hats and mittens for the Newark Food Closet.
Food Closet Co-coordinators Lisa Barrett, Becky Jandreau and Barrettβs son Robert Barrett came to the school December 19th to collect items that were arranged around a Christmas tree decorated with donated hat and mittens.
Kindergarten teacher Caitlin Arbogast organized the drive at Perkins that began right after Thanksgiving.
βAt Perkins School, we believe in the power of community,β Perkins Principal Pete Czerkas said. βThis December, our students and staff came together for a food and mitten/hat drive to support the Newark Food Closet. Each day, we reminded students during morning announcements about the importance of helping others, and we connected this effort to our Pride value of COMMUNITY. With the generous donations from our school community, we showed that even small acts can make a big difference.β
As in past years, Barrett and Jandreau were very appreciative of the donations.
βWeβre very happy for the support of what we do at the Newark Food Closet. We
could not do it without the help of our community,β Barrett said.
