As KidzBop music played in the background during the lovely late spring evening Lincoln schoolers and their families 195 in all enjoyed the 90-minute event on the playground.
Some 50 parents also took advantage of an opportunity to make a free, Safe Child ID for their child with Wayne County Sherriffโs Department representatives that includes height, weight information, a thumbprint and photo of the child. Should the child ever go missing, the card can be given to law enforcement personnel to assist in recovery.
Children attending the event also had the opportunity decorate a flowerpot and plant some seeds in it to take home with help from members of the Newark High School Pollinator Club.
Lincoln School Principal Kari Hamelinck thanked PTA volunteers Shawnna Wirth, Tara Eberhardt and Stephanie Weigand for their help in planning the event. Staff volunteers included Hamelinck, Kindergarten teacher Amanda Richwalder, Newark Central School District Resource Officer Nick Fera, who is also a Wayne County Sheriffโs Deputy, Lincoln School Head Custodian Robert Mosteiro and LS custodian Brandy Forjone.
"We look forward to this tradition every year. It was a great night for families to come together to celebrate the end of the year,โ Hamelinck said. โThe addition of the Wayne County Sherriff's Office and the Newark HS Pollinator club were great additions offering some stations for families to participate in."
