Nearly two dozen JV and Varsity baseball players worked with 40 grades 3-6 students at two Baseball Clinics held at Newark High School March 19th and 26th.

Our players worked alongside the youth helping run drills and provide instruction and feedback on their skills,” said Will Bean, Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach who ran the Clinic with Mike McGavisk, Head Varsity Baseball Coach. “JV and Varsity players who were able to volunteer at both two-hour Clinics earned 4 community service hours.

This is the second year the clinic was held for students in grades 3-6 in the Newark Central School District. Information about the clinic was shared with all players who had signed up for our Rec Little League through the Alex Eligh Community Center (AECC) and through our School Communication platform to anyone who was interested in baseball,” Bean said. “Most of the current players on the JV and Varsity team grew up learning and playing baseball through our Rec program at the AECC and this was a greatway for them to start giving back to their community and the game of baseball. This program has been a success and has been a rewarding opportunity for both our JV and Varsity Players, as well as the students in our community.”

It is nice to see our coaches and current student-athletes interact with the future of Newark baseball,” said Jonathan Mastin, Director of Physical Education, Health and Athletics. “This was a great opportunity for our youth players to be around and learn from the players that they look up to. It was also a nice opportunity for our current players to demonstrate what being a great teammate is all about. I am grateful that our coaches recognize the importance of building a program from the bottom up and prioritize community.“
