Message from Matt Cook, Superintendent of Schools
Welcome to Newark Central School, where we work hard to live our vision of every student, every day! My name is Matt Cook and I’ve been the Superintendent of Schools since 2013. Serving this community over the last several years has been the greatest privilege of my career.
I began working with young people as a social worker in a group home for adolescent boys in the city of Rochester, after graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree from SUNY Geneseo. From there, I worked in the addictions field for about a dozen years, primarily in the prevention area but I also did some treatment work in clinics and county jails. During that time, I completed a Masters in Social Work from Syracuse University. My first work in public education was for the Lyons Central School District, where I led a substance abuse and violence prevention grant prior to becoming the elementary school social worker. After completion of the Administrative Certification Program in the Warner School of Education at the University of Rochester, I became the Director of Pupil Services and then Director of Educational Services at Lyons. After completing the Superintendent Development Program through SUNY Oswego, I became the Director of Human Resources at Wayne Central prior to accepting the role of Superintendent of Schools at Newark. I am currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Rochester.
I’ve lived in Wayne County for over 25 years with my wife and three children and have devoted my professional career to this region.
