Mr. Shawn Flanagan
Educated at the University of Rhode Island with Bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Zoology he also holds a Master’s degree in Education from Roberts Wesleyan College. He attended Paramedic School at Monroe Community College and Critical Care Paramedic Training at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. He has also taken courses with Project Lead the Way at Stevenson University, also in Maryland.
He is tenured as a Science Teacher at Newark High School, where he teaches multiple courses including Regents’ Biology, the Living Environment; Forensic Science; and he is the Teacher/Coordinator for Newark High School’s Project Lead the Way BioMedical Sciences program.
He is also an American Heart Association instructor for Basic, Advanced Cardiovascular, and Pediatric Advanced Life Supports and has served the New York State Region as Regional Faculty, assuring the quality of courses and programming as training new Instructors.
Mr. Flanagan served on the Newark-Arcadia EMS Board of Directors for 12 years including 2 years as Vice-President and 4 years as President. In 2012, he was named the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital EMS Educator of Excellence. In addition to his work with Newark-Arcadia EMS, as Director of Junior Membership, Mr. Flanagan is the Eagle Rank Coordinator for Boy Scout Troop 122, and advisor to the Newark High School Empty Closets/Open Hearts Organization. In his spare time, he is a Star Wars enthusiast, Superman Historian and collector, and enjoys a variety of movie genres.
