Dear Parents,

                I am pleased to announce that I will be taking over the coordination of this year’s NMS Ski and Snowboarding Club.  Many of you may remember that I chaperoned most of the trips to Brantling last year.  This year, I will coordinate all of the paperwork and dates as well.  Please direct your questions to me, Karen Taber.  The best way to contact me is by email:  ktaber@newarkcsd.org.   Our club will also have additional chaperones this year:  Mrs. Shelley Gaston and Mrs. Torrey Pietarinen will join us at Brantling for our trips.

                In an effort to help families plan for the expenses of this club, I am providing the information about the Brantling fees for the upcoming winter well in advance.

    Here are the pricing options for the NMS Ski and Snowboarding Club:

    5-Week Ski & Snowboarding Program with 5 Lessons

    THURSDAY Evening Season Pass with 5 Lessons

    Full Season Pass with 5 Lessons

    Ski or Snowboard Equipment Rentals for 5-week program

    $  45.00

    Season Rental (Anytime—for four hours)

    $  90.00

    Bus Fee for Transportation to Brantling (5 trips)**

    $  18.00

    **TRANSPORTATION TO BRANTLING IS ONE-WAY.  Parents must pick up students at Brantling no later than 8:00 pm each club day.

                Weather permitting, we plan to start in December.   The dates we have scheduled are:

                                        THURSDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2008

                                        THURSDAY, DECEMBER 18, 2008

                                        THURSDAY, JANUARY 8, 2009

                                        THURSDAY, JANUARY 15, 2009

                                        THURSDAY, JANUARY 22, 2009

                                        make-up date:  Thursday, January 29, 2009

                If any of the specified dates are canceled to weather, we will make up the days in order to have five total trips to Brantling.  Our lift tickets are good from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm.  Please be sure to pick up your child from Brantling no later than 8:00 pm.   Please also note that you must sign your child out with one of the chaperones.  If your child will be going home with another parent, please send me a note giving permission for that adult to pick up your child at Brantling.  We want to ensure the safety of all the students in our club, so this is very important.

                All students who sign up for one of the above programs will receive a SKI FREE coupon for one additional trip to Brantling.  (This is for a lift ticket only and does not include rentals.)  In addition, at the conclusion of the program, all participants will receive a Benefit Pass for reduced lift ticket rates for the remainder of the season.  We have a long vacation in December, and I hope to see many of our skiers and snowboarders at Brantling taking advantage of this offer!

                All registration forms and payments are due back to me by FRIDAY, DECEMBER 5, 2008.   Please note that you will need to write one check payable to “Brantling Ski Slopes” for the club option that you choose.  A second check for transportation to Brantling should be made payable to “Newark Middle School Ski Club.”

                Brantling has made many improvements during the summer months.     They have improved lifts, changed some runs, and added new drainage.  I am looking forward to a great skiing season, and I hope that you are, too.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

                                                                                        Yours truly,

                                                                                        Mrs. Karen Taber
