Based on the book by Roald Dahl, James and the Giant Peach, Jr. tells the story of a young orphaned boy as he finds family and home with the help of some interesting friends along the way. Lots of fun roles. The ensemble will be playing anything from plants, to reporters, to seagulls! Check out the information below.

TOOLS TO HELP YOU REHEARSE AT HOME

    EMAILS SENT:

    4/17/2019

Hope you are having a great spring break! Super excited to be in SHOW WEEK when we get back to school on Monday! Please read all for important announcements. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.

    Rehearsal times this week:
    • as stated on the original rehearsal calendar, we are staying LATER Monday through Thursday. Rehearsals are 5:00-8:00PM. This extra time accounts for clean up, announcements etc. Thank you!
    • Friday: cast/crew call between 5:30/6. House opens (you can go into auditorium and pick your seat) at 6:30. Performance 7:00
    • Saturday: cast/crew call between 12:30/1. House opens at 1:30. Performance 2:00.
    Cast and Crew Dinner:
    • Monday through Thursday (no dinner on Friday) at 4:30 in the NMS cafeteria. Optional, but encouraged!
    • Thank you for those that signed up to help! I will have a tote for non perishable items if you want to bring in early.
    Costumes:
    • We are rehearsing IN costume every night this week!
    • Cast needs to have their BLACK PANTS and sneakers (any color) every night this week! If they do not have them on Monday they will have to dig through the pants we own to borrow. Cast may keep these items at school in their backstage cubby - or take them home every night. If you leave things, please label.
    • All other costume pieces are provided (hats for some scenes, etc.)
    • Crew needs to have their BLACK PANTS and BLACK SHIRT every night this week too! They may also get a cubby to store items - or take home every night.
    Hair:
    • Cast hair needs to be pulled away from faces. You know your hair best...you will want to consider if you have to wear any hats in the show and adjust accordingly. If someone needs help with hair there are always friends in the cast (or high school students) who like to help!
    • Try your hair style on Monday to see if it works. Whatever you land on by Thursday is what I should see on stage for Friday and Saturday. I do not like to be surprised by any new elements on stage for show night!
    Makeup/Nail Polish/Jewelry:
    • We will not need to be in makeup until Thursday.  A simple foundation (just for stopping shine and creating a blank canvas) and black eyeliner (bottom lid) is all everyone needs. Powder is good too if you are prone to sweating under the lights!
    • Cast comfortable with more makeup may wear brown/earthtone/non-shimmer eye shadow, eyeliner on top of lid, black mascara, small amount of rouge, neutral colored lip stick (or just chapstick works great).
    • Sharing makeup is obviously not ideal. Bring your foundation and eyeliner in a baggie with your name on it and leave it in your cubby backstage.
    • nail polish is distracting on stage. Please remove it or it must be neutral.
    • Jewelry is distracting on stage (unless it is part of your costume). Please leave it at home - watches, fitbits, necklaces, large earrings. (I've had some questions about leaving newly pierced earrings in...and yes that is fine!).
    Photos:
    • Parents are welcome to attend rehearsals this week to snap photos starting TUESDAY. Our plan is to begin the run of the show at 6:00pm Tuesday and Wednesday, and 5:30pm on Thursday. It actually helps us to have some audience members in the auditorium so we can really practice staying in character with transitions after applause!
    • Directly following our final dress rehearsal on Thursday we will take a group cast and crew picture on stage. I will be sure to share it with all of you...but you are also welcome to come in and take the photo yourself!
    Water:
    • Everyone please bring a labeled bottle of water for backstage
    Strike:
    • dismantling of the set and clean up of everything backstage takes place directly following the Saturday performance. ALL cast and crew is required to help. PARENT HELP is greatly appreciated!!! Please bring work gloves and cordless drills to help speed up the process!
    Concession Stand:
    Cast (and crew) Party:
    A note about performances:
    • Cast and crew are not allowed in the lobby before the performance (or at intermission). We will be in the band room getting ready. I ask that any parents wishing to visit with cast and crew backstage (taking photos etc.) please exit the band room by 6:30 on Friday and 1:30 on Saturday. This allows us time to warm up and focus on the performance! Thank you!
    • I also ask that families do not visit with cast and crew during intermission -- even if they are begging you to bring them back a snack during this time. (they cannot eat in costume!!) This also allows everyone to remain focused on the performance. Cast and crew will come out to the lobby after the performance to greet family and friends.
    Tickets
    • $3 and are available at the door before each performance.
Self care...next week will be challenging, tiring, exciting, stressful, and full of every emotion possible! Please do your best to encourage completing homework after school so that cast and crew can get right to sleep after rehearsal. There will also be some downtime so bringing homework with them (or a quiet activity for waiting!) is a great idea too. If you have a cast member, please encourage them to show you a number from the show using the music here or here. Being rested, ready to go, and confident in their lyrics and dance moves after a week off (ahhh!) will help them be successful on Monday!

Lastly, as we head into this final week...thank you for supporting your cast/crew member on this wild adventure. I am very excited to see this all come together this week. Thank you for your donations (to cast/crew dinner, concession stand, cast party), your helpwith sets/costumes/props, your patience with our extra five minutes here and there last week, and your publicity efforts (tell family and friends how important this is to your cast/crew member!). I appreciate all of it. See you next week!

Hello James and the Giant Peach Families.

I am excited to have the crew join us this week! Please take a look at the announcements below. If you have any questions, please let me know. As a reminder, we do NOT have rehearsal over Spring Break.

    Requests for Help
    • We will have printed posters reading for hanging up around town soon. Stop in at the end of rehearsal and pick some up!

    • A few slots left in the Cast and Crew Dinner Sign Up Genius. Thank you to your donations - we feed the cast and crew during production week only Monday April 22 through Thursday April 25. This is because Monday through Thursday our rehearsals end LATER (5:00-8:00pm). Dinner is 100% optional but it is a fun way for the cast/crew to bond and also you don't have to worry about rushing around grabbing dinner for your very busy cast/crew member that week! Please do not feel obligated to participate or donate...but if you can I appreciate it! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080F48ACAE23A5F85-james

Hello James and the Giant Peach Families,

Thank you for reading the email below. New info and requests for help are included! It's hard to believe we only have 3 weeks (of rehearsal - since we do NOT rehearse over spring break) left before the performance!

Thank you for remembering to contact me if your actor or crew member cannot attend rehearsal on any given night. It saves me time at the beginning of rehearsal that I spend making phone calls for anyone that is missing.

    Request for help!
    • Seeking 1 or 2 parents who would be willing to set up a table and sell $1 raffle tickets at the door and during intermission at both performances. I have two 5lb chocolate bars that need to be raffled off to raise some additional funds for the MS Choral Fund (which financially supports the musical). Anyone want to take the lead on this?
    • Seeking 1 or 2 parents who would be willing to organize cast party after the Sunday performance. It is in the NMS cafeteria (I already signed out the space). I need someone to take the lead on estimating food needed, ordering pizza (NMS Choral Club pays for pizza), being the contact person for this, set up/clean up. And potentially gathering more volunteers as needed? Anyone interested?
    • Thank you to Jessica Wells and Brandi Kuzmenko for leading the concession stand planning! Stay tuned for a request seeking donations and possible workers!
    • Thank you to Lori Dusharm and Elise Comella for leading the box office and ticketing! We are all set with that task! Tickets are $3 and available only at the door prior to the performance.
    • We will have printed posters reading for hanging up around town soon. When we do, a REMIND will go out asking you to stop in, pick up a few, and help us post!
    • Facebook event has been created, please invite, share, etc. https://www.facebook.com/events/438377186910504/

Hello James and the Giant Peach Families!

Another great week of rehearsal. Lots of hard work happening! This is a challenging show. Please remember, if your child will not be attending rehearsal (for any reason - even sick from school), please communicate that to me via email/remind/call/text. Thank you!

This week, our crew will be joining us on Tuesday night. Looking forward to having everyone all together for the evening. Tuesday is also the night for Parent Volunteers! If you noted that you would like to help oversee any of the set/costume/prop projects then please join us Tuesday. These elements are created by the students but some things require adult supervision (ie: using a hot glue gun, painting, using a box cutter, etc.). Students will be working in small groups on Tuesday on these projects. I will have "to do" lists and instructions ready for each group. Your extra pair of adults eyes is welcome!

Generally, 6th graders are tasked with props, 7th with costumes, and 8th with sets. 8th graders - please wear painting appropriate clothes and shoes on Tuesday!!

Hello James and the Giant Peach Families!

We had a short but productive week of rehearsals. The cast is working very hard and we plan to continue to have high standards as we work through the script and musical numbers!

I want to encourage actors to use the tools provided on the website. Here you will find links to the music to practice at home and links to video from the first night we learn each of the production numbers.

Families, you will also find that I keep a running list of all announcements and email communications on this page in case you are ever looking for info!

REMIND notices go out daily at 2:30PM. Click this link to join.

Welcome James and the Giant Peach Families!

We are so excited to have you as the cast and crew of this year's NMS musical!

As noted at the Parent Meeting in January, I will do my best to send out weekly emails with updates and announcements. If there are other people who should receive the email (grandparents, car-pool friends, etc.) please respond directly to me and I will add their names to the distribution list!!

REMIND notices go out daily at 2:30PM reminding students and parents what is on the schedule for that night. It is very helpful for all of us if parents (and students - if they have their own device) sign up to receive these notices. Reminds come through text, the REMIND app, or email - you choose. Click this link to join: https://www.remind.com/join/c742k9

Attached please find the copy of the packet distributed at the Parent Meeting. Included is the Rehearsal Calendar. Your student should know which part they are. If you have any questions about who is called to rehearsal on which days, please contact me.

If your child is sick from school and they are called to rehearsal, please contact me to let me know they will not be attending. This can be accomplished through REMIND, email, text, or a call. Otherwise, I will follow up with you to make sure I know why we are missing students at rehearsal. I do not have access to the daily absence reports so thank you in advance for your help with this.

If transportation to rehearsal at 5:00pm is a challenge, students should speak to Mr. Uveges. Mr. Uveges sends out REMINDS about this, so stay tuned!
