Certain references made at rehearsal are met with blank stares...so I created this list of videos for you to check out! :)
Enjoy the links below.
Run Freedom Run at the TONY Awards! Just look how high and beautiful those knees on the runs are! You can do it too!!!!!
Some precision inspiration for the UGC Employees courtesy of the world famous Rockettes! (kick line is at the end)
UGC Employees...see also the very famous choreography from the A Chorus Line finale "One"...this is just a short clip of it! (famous original choreography by Michael Bennett)
When I mentioned Hope and her father dancing together like Daddy Warbucks and Annie..
The Poor-check out some inspiration behind your "What is Urinetown" dance breaks! Fancy footwork copied at around :55
Bottle dance from Fiddler on the Roof (the revival used the original choreography of Jerome Robbins-the same guy who created the iconic choreography of West Side Story)
For Evan...some Foghorn Leghorn inspiration for Senator Fipp
For "The Poor" in "We're Not Sorry"--this is a VERY long Youtube video of people demonstrating various swing dance moves (full disclosure I did not watch the whole thing) but if you skip to 8:00 you can see what they call "Skates" and I call "sailors". As you work with other dance teachers and choreographers you will find that all of us use different words to describe the same moves! :)
Oooh fun! A first look at the West End premiere of Urinetown...looks a little "Steam Punk" doesn't it?
NOT Urinetown Related:
Just because! Some of Emily's favorite dance clips.
If you're feeling bored and looking for something fun to watch...
Watch this and NOT smile...I dare you. (Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor, Debbie Reynolds)
Rich Man's Frug from Sweet Charity-swingin' music (Cy Coleman) and sweet dance moves (Bob Fosse). Recognize some of the moves!? Beyoncé and her choreographers tend to be influenced by Fosse.
Probably my favorite piece of musical theatre dance orchestration. This is the most recent revival but still feels very Jerome Robbins-esque
Some choreography is so iconic and fits the music so perfectly it's kind of impossible NOT to do the original...which is why I've never seen the piece done any other way! (choreography by Tommy Tune)
This song is pure joy and happiness (and also one of my all time faves). Having a bad day? Dance around with Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, and company...
Complaining about running and singing!? Aren't you glad you don't have to jump rope and sing? :) Fast forward to 3:17 to see the big dance break. (recognize Nikki Snelson-the host of our Stars of Tomorrow ceremonies and teacher at Summer Stars?) choreographer-Jerry Mitchell
