Superintendent's Message

  • NCSD Families and Staff,

     Matt Cook

On June 5th, you received a ConnectEd message from the School District, in coordination with the Newark Police Department, regarding an arrest of a former District Employee on severe charges in Virginia. At the time, it was the District’s goal to share relevant information with families and encourage all students who would benefit from additional support to contact their school counselor or psychologist.

Since this communication, members of our community have expressed concerns that the District was aware of additional information. As an action step, to address these concerns, I suggested the Board of Education request a third-party investigation of such allegations. All findings will be reported to the Board of Education for its review and discussion. If you or your child have concerns in this regard, please contact the Board of Education’s attorney, Harris Beach PLLC, 585-419-8748 or svisingard@harrisbeach.com.

At this time, the Newark Police Department has confirmed that they are unaware of any criminal activity occurring at the District. We will continue to work in collaboration with the local authorities while they finalize their investigation. As this is an ongoing investigation, please contact their office directly with any questions or concerns.  If you have concerns or would like to speak to someone regarding mental health supports, please contact the Victim Resource Center of the Finger Lakes at (800)-456-1172.

I want to acknowledge the alleged allegations regarding this former employee. We are aware of the pain and conversations occurring and the impact it is having on our community.  Just like you, I want to assure you that your child’s safety is our District’s top priority. We are committed to creating and supporting a safe environment which promotes learning and will continue to do all we can to address your concerns and share information as we are able to.

    Thank you,

    Matt Cook, Superintendent of Schools
